Our team—Min Ye, Andrii Maksymov, and Nicolas Delfosse @nic delfosse—has built the first large scale decoder, which shows real-time decoding at the MegaQuOp scale on a single CPU. This validates a cornerstone of IonQ's Walking Cat architecture. We've proved that our real-time decoding stack is fully ready for our future hardware roadmap as we scale toward 10K+ physical qubits. This is the first decoder to achieve real-time speeds for a full, large-scale system with hundreds of logical qubits and millions of operations: 🔸 No QPU Slowdown: Achieved decoding without slowing down quantum operations (or "stretch"), keeping time-to-solution nearly untouched. 🔸 CPU Efficiency: Validated on a single off-the-shelf Apple M4 Max CPU, showing a near-zero computational stretch as low as 0.03% on a massive 408-logical-qubit workload and 1M+ T gates. Recent efforts have been focused on decoding an error-corrected memory or a small number of logical operations. Here we demonstrate an end-to-end real-time deco...
