Two South Florida men are behind bars in connection with a $35 million Medicare fraud scheme involving fake billing for orthotic braces. CMS Administrator Dr. Oz said the crackdown is ongoing, warning that South Florida has twice as many durable medical equipment suppliers as McDonald’s because of rampant fraud. He said stolen Medicare ID numbers are being used to bill for medical equipment that is never shipped, with the money quickly moved to offshore accounts in the Cayman Islands. ▻
