Meet Professor Ignacio Cirac, Director of the Theory Division at the Max Planck Institute of Quantum Optics. Ignacio is one of the founding figures of quantum computing. In 1995, together with Peter Zoller, he proposed one of the first practical architectures for a quantum computer using trapped ions, a milestone that helped launch the field. His decades of work on entanglement, quantum simulation, and tensor networks have earned him the Wolf Prize, the Benjamin Franklin Medal, and the Max Planck Medal, among other honors.
