The U.S. is set for a major expansion of its military presence in Greenland under a new security agreement reached with Denmark and Greenland. The deal gives Washington expanded long-term military access while barring Russia, China and other non-NATO countries from establishing bases or maintaining a military presence on the strategically vital Arctic island. It stops short of transferring sovereignty over Greenland to the U.S., with Denmark saying the agreement preserves its territorial integrity and Greenlanders' right to self-determination.
