End of Watch: Police Officer Charleston Hartfield October 1, 2017 Today, we honor the life and heroism of Officer Charleston Vernon Hartfield. Officer Hartfield joined the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on January 18, 2006. He spent nearly a decade in Patrol before transferring to the Project Management and Video Bureau, where he played a key role in creating a memorial wall at the Southeast Area Command to honor fallen officers. He was also the author of a book sharing his experiences as a police officer. In addition to his police service, Hartfield was a U.S. Army combat veteran with 16 years of military service. He served in Iraq in 2003, with the 82nd Airborne Division and, at the time of his passing, was a First Sergeant with the Nevada Army National Guard's 100th Quartermaster Company. On October 1, 2017, while off duty at the Route 91 Harvest Festival with his wife, Hartfield acted selflessly to help others during the mass shooting. He was shot and killed while rescuing fellow concertgoers. He was 34 years old. His legacy lives on through his family, his fellow officers, and all those he inspired.
