BREAKING: New York Gov. Kathy Hochul taps Attorney General Letitia James to serve as special prosecutor in the Cornell sexual assault case, taking the investigation out of the local district attorney's hands. "New reporting raises serious questions about the information his office relied upon when it made that decision," Hochul says, calling for a "fresh and thorough review of all the facts." James will now oversee the investigation into allegations that a former Cornell student was sexually assaulted by multiple men at a fraternity house in 2024. The original investigation closed without charges before the Tompkins County DA reopened it this week following new information in the woman's civil lawsuit. Hochul says James can prosecute offenses and present evidence to a grand jury if warranted. ▻
