Arrest Made On 32 Year Old Cold Case On May 18, 1993, 55-year-old Tommie Davis was found murdered inside her residence in the 1500 block of Haskell Avenue. Ms. Davis had been beaten with a 2×4 and slashed with a knife. The only investigative leads were minor damage to the front door and some missing items. With little else to pursue, the investigation was archived as a cold case. Thirty-two years later, Detective Isom began reinvestigating the case and submitted several items of evidence for forensic testing. A break in the cold case occurred when it was discovered that blood located on a wall inside the residence did not belong to Ms. Davis. The DNA profile obtained from the blood was entered into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS) and returned a match to Tommy Lynn Jones. It was later determined that Tommy Lynn Jones was an alias used by 56-year-old Gary Len Ross. Through evidence including Ross’s connection to Ms. Davis, as well as the manner in which she was killed, Detective Isom was able to obtain an arrest warrant. On October 2, Ross was located and arrested. “The Dallas Police Department is committed to pursuing justice in every case, no matter how much time has passed,” said Major Bobbie Epperson of the Dallas Police Department’s CAPERS Unit. “Detective Isom’s meticulous and persistent work exemplifies the dedication of our CAPERS Unit. We hope this arrest brings a measure of closure to Ms. Davis’s family and serves as a reminder that justice will always be pursued.” The Dallas Police Department commends Detective Isom and the Homicide Unit for their outstanding work in advancing this investigation and pursuing justice for Ms. Davis and her family. Ross is currently being held at the Lew Sterrett Justice Center on a charge of Capital Murder. The facts and ci
