A teenage wrestler is asking the Supreme Court to step in after she says she was forced to compete against a male opponent without being told beforehand. The application says the girl was 15 when she wrestled for third place at a Washington girls' tournament. She and her mother allege they were not told the opponent was male and claim the opponent penetrated her during the match. When her mother later asked the district to guarantee her daughter would not have to wrestle a male without penalty, or at least provide advance notice, the family says the district refused. "No girl should have to choose between playing the sports she loves and her safety," the application argues. Now the family wants the Court to intervene while the appeal moves forward.
