Christa Pike is awake and speaking after surviving Tennessee’s Sept. 30 execution attempt, but her attorneys say she remains hospitalized with severe arm injuries, including burns and blisters, after receiving two doses of pentobarbital. Her lawyers are asking a court to preserve drug lot numbers, needles and execution logs. Gov. Bill Lee has halted executions for the rest of the year and ordered an independent review. Pike was sentenced to death for her role in the 1995 torture and murder of fellow Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer. ▻
