End of Watch: Police Sergeant Paul DeWeert October 8, 1967 Today, we honor the memory of Sergeant Paul DeWeert, a dedicated member of the Las Vegas Police Department who served our community for 20 years. Known by his fellow officers as “Pappy,” Sergeant DeWeert joined the department in January 1948. He was respected for his leadership, experience, and commitment to public safety. Tragically, Sergeant DeWeert was shot and killed by a drunk ex-convict at a dark intersection in North Las Vegas. He was unarmed at the time of the encounter. He was 60 years old. Sergeant DeWeert's sacrifice and service will never be forgotten.
