"I don't care if I go to jail." A 6-year-old boy curses at police and admits stealing his mother's gun after shooting his first-grade teacher inside a Virginia elementary school. Newly released bodycam footage shows officers entering a classroom at Richneck Elementary School in Newport News, where a reading specialist is restraining the boy. He tells officers he took the handgun from his mother's purse. Teacher Abby Zwerner was shot through her hand and into her chest during the January 2023 attack. She survived after undergoing six surgeries. The boy's mother was later sentenced to nearly four years in prison for child neglect and federal gun offenses, while Zwerner was awarded $10 million in a lawsuit against a former assistant principal accused of ignoring warnings about the gun.
