On Sunday, October 4, 2026, the US Marshals Service, District of Columbia Superior Court participated in the 74th Annual Red Mass at the Cathedral of St. Matthew the Apostle in Washington, DC. The USMS worked in coordination with the Supreme Court Police, US Secret Service, and the Metropolitan Police Department to provide security and support for the event. This year’s Red Mass was attended by Vice President JD Vance, his family, members of the Supreme Court, US District Court for the District of Columbia judges, DC Superior Court judges, and other members of the judiciary, public officials, and members of the legal community. The Red Mass is traditionally celebrated on the Sunday before the first Monday in October, marking the beginning of the Supreme Court’s annual term. The Red Mass seeks God’s blessings and guidance for those entrusted with the administration of justice, as well as government officials and others serving the public. The event highlighted the strong coordination and partnership among federal and local law enforcement agencies in supporting the safety and security of the judiciary. The US Marshals Service, District of Columbia, Superior Court was honored to support this longstanding tradition and work alongside our law enforcement partners in carrying out our judicial security mission.
